Where the Ganga rushes out of the Himalayan foothills, Rishikesh mixes ashrams and suspension bridges with white-water rafting and riverside cafés. Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula anchor the old town, while upstream, the riverbanks turn quiet and forested.

September to April for river rafting and pleasant riverside weather; February–April also brings the International Yoga Festival.
